Cantankerous When I Want to Be Layout, part two.

I thought I had finished this layout before, but apparently not lol.  Quick synopsis before the additional embellishments. A scanned picture of myself as a baby. I can not remember a time that I didn't hate tight clothing. The base is Anna Griffin paper with a die cut vellum overlay hand stitched with handspun embroidery thread. Cantankerous and #$@& is glassine paper from my father's stamp collecting supply die cut with Cricut Explore. The glasssine letters and vellum mat are wrinkled with the pink Stickles used to adhere the glassine letters.

I added the speech bubble, toads, bug rosette and journal pocket (under the larger toad). I used Tombow Multi-Glue on the back of the new embellishments (waiting till it had dried but remained sticky) to give just a little dimension.

The pocket is Papertrey Ink Sweet Blush. The edges are cut with a pair of decorative edge scissors to pick up the deckled edge of the original photograph. The pocket is stamped with white pigment ink with Papertrey Ink's Honey Bees stamp set. The toad is from Cricut (the Explore software doesn't have a way to show where an image came from after it's been put in a project). The top layer is heat embossed with white opaque embossing powder and the eye is Glossy Accents.

 The top layer of the smaller toad is also heat embossed with opaque white embossing powder. I've always loved watching toads. My hands have memorized them : ).

The speech bubble is another Cricut diecut. The Arrrrgyles is stamped with Papertrey Ink's Simple Alphabet and Soft Stone ink. I've lost the "L" so I colored an "E" with the L part of the stamp.  The discoloration of the photo is in the original, so I let it be. Arrrgyles is the punch line to one of my favorite riddles (what sort of socks do pirates wear?). The edges are distressed with the edge of a scissor.

The rosette is also cut from glassine from my father's stash. It works completely differently than paper or cardstock lol. The beetle is another Cricut cut. The head and abdomen are popped up a little with Tombow Multi-Glue and then the legs and antennae are glued flat. The top layer is covered with Glossy Accents.

Spring Into Action Challenge

The challenge is to use a stamp set that has not seen any action or enough action. Scrapbooking has been on the back burner far too long, so I decided to use the Make It Market kit: Country Fair to scrap the highlights of a day I went to the fair by myself.

 Using the technique of making a stamp out of sticky backed fun foam that was part of the Ancient Rome segment of Stamp-a-faire 2014, I stamped the 12 x 12 paper using Picked Raspberry Distress Paint. I attached it to a piece of plastic packaging instead of an acrylic block.

Then I added paisley stamps with White Pigment ink. I used the rosette die to make a rosette and to make a border.

The quilt square was turned into a journal pocket (1/8 inch score tape on the sides and bottom). The journal card was made by gluing the Enjoy die cut at the top of a Monthly Moments Mini Journal Card die. I used some hot pink gingham ribbon in the border. The title is cut with the Cricut Base Camp cartridge.

Build a Bouquet Challenge

The Build a Bouquet Challenge is to build a bouquet using flowers from different stamp sets. I stamped flowers from Bold Bouquet, Four of a Kind, Rosie Posie and Make It Market kit: Country Fair fussy cut them and attached them over a sentiment from Boutique Borders: Thanks. A Versamark marker was used to color areas of some of the flowers with gold embossing powder.

It's the middle of a 10 day long 8th Anniversary Celebration over at Papertrey Ink. I'm working out an idea for the Spring Into Action Challenge where we use an unused or underused set. So of course it's the best time to conduct experiments lol.

This is a rather intricate secondary stamp cut from sticky back fun foam (put on a piece of plastic packaging) a technique I learned about at Stampe-a-faire 2014.  This is the result with Picked Raspberry Distress Paint rubbed over the fun foam. All the dies on my desk are from Papertrey Ink's Make It Market kit: Country Fair.

And outside it has been snowing. I treated myself to a snowplow contract. Only he's pushed all the snow from the driveway onto the sidewalk. Fortunately it was warm enough to do a John Henry through the pile before it froze. Hoping my flax survives being walked on until the thaw. The bank is  about 5 feet high, It's probably snowed about 3 feet over the last 2 weeks.

Papertrey Ink January 2015 Blog Hop

This month's Papertrey Ink Blog Hop challenge is to use hearts. It's been a few months since I had a chance to really play with paper. I've especially been wanting to use my Make It Market kits.

I don't have a lot of heart stamps, but I found one in the Make It Market kit: Country Fair. The front is embossed with the impression plate and the gold ink are from Make It Market kit: Luxe Letterpress and the sentiments are from MIMk: Beautiful Brushstrokes. The only things that aren't from a MIMkit are the heart punch and the Stamper's Select cardstock for the cardbase and the PTI chai inkpad used to ink the edge of the heart. I signed up to take Cards with Dimension: Lovely Layers, Textures & Embellishments by Danielle Flanders over at Craftsy.com. It is giving me a greater awareness of it all.

And because Simon Says Have a Heart for it's Wednesday Challenge, I'm entering it there as well.
