Feeling Frosty Challenge

I used the snowflake from the Creative Memories Cheerful Seasons cartridge.  For the shadow I used some of the 3M adhesive paper and made a stencil with the shadow cut and painted it on with white paint. Then I used a cream colored paper for the base and a shimmery eggshell for the layer cut. I used four brads from my stash and Stampin' Up Dimensionals for the snowflake layer cut and some really thick pop-ups for the mat. The card is made with Kraft cardstock from Papertrey Ink. The brown is from Anna Griffin and is shimmer also. Sadly the photograph doesn't pick up the subtle reflections.

Sandy Souvenirs and WOYWW 84

It's a late WOYWW post for me. I did take a picture of my workdesk, but my battery was flatlined and apparently didn't register the picture ... then I forgot I had to retake it ... so this week it'll just be a project I've been working on.

It's snowing like mad today, so I'm making beachy souvenirs as gifts just to balance things out. I have a bit of a compulsion to collect a bag of sand at every beach I go to, unless it's a national park, then I just take pictures of the sand. So I used some clear glass ornaments, put in some sand and sea glass and wrote the name of the beach and the year we were there with a copic pen.

The boxes are made with a cut from the Wrap It Up Cartridge and decorated with squares of paper from a K&Co. beach pad. After the first four, I learned it was way easier to put the decorative paper on before the box was assembled lol.

Phun with Photos

This is my cat Dilly who loves to sit in observation places (like the shelf I was assembling) where she can watch everyone in the room. I captured the essence of her, but the quality of the photograph was minimal so I used one of the artistic filters in Photoshop Elements.

Then I used the watercolor effect on the Christmas Quilt picture.

And the poster edge effect on this picture of a gnome in my garden (the effect should be more pronounced if you click on the picture).

Christmas Quilt

This is the awesome quilt my oldest younger sister (Sis O'Snap) made for me! The colors are amazing, and best of all, around the border are Eiffel Towers! My jaw hit the floor when I unwrapped this. She made the same quilt in different fabrics for our other sisters each of us was tickled pink! The white specks are snowflakes.

WOYWW

I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season. Mine has been mostly nice and quiet. DD and I have been having a Whovian fest which is why I'm still up at the wee hours. Actually we had watched the weeping angels, don't blink episode and decided we needed to stay up and watch a few more to put that one out of our heads before bed... only I've just reminded myself lol.

Actually there isn't much going on my workdesk at the moment. The dresser was part of DD's Christmas gift made from Club Scrap's Club Stamp Academy kit. The changes I made to it were painting the inside of all the matchbox drawer's, using a K&Co. embellishment as a paper weight, a doily out of patterned vellum and little glass vials filled with sand from beaches we've been to visit. The drawers were filled with jewelry I'd made for her (all wrapped separately), including my first beaded ring made with even count peyote stitch.

I've other projects to post, but I'm a bit behind on my picture taking as well as my projects. My oldest younger sister made the most fabulous quilts for myself and my other sisters which so need to be photographed and posted, fingers crossed it'll be soon.

So if you'd like to see what other people have been doing at their workdesk, hop over to Julia's Stamping Ground. Warning, it can be habit forming and you might well find yourself thinking, "What? Wednesday already?"

WOYWW

Every year I vow I'm going to be more organized for the winter holidays and then life gets  ... hectic, yeah let's go with hectic lol.  We've had snow. The lovely scallop trail was made by the dog, I think she did a good job of it. My Christmas present is a snow plow contract :D.

DD made her first set of multiple cards and envelopes (using the kreate-a-lope). All I did was punch a few snowflakes and give her the information.

I've been making small gifts and sorting through my bead stash. Don't know why I like to sort when I'm behind the 8 ball of time, ok, it's probably a feeble attempt to maintain a facade of control but it's so much nicer on my golden barge sailing on De Nial. The beaded round bit is an i-top snap daddy that I covered with muslin and then beaded. It can snap onto the bobby pins or rings (sold separately). I bought the earring wires a few years ago, the picture doesn't show they are anodized a lovely blue green color.

My regular workspace is covered with Christmas cards which I can't show yet. I'm told they aren't late if they arrive by Jan. 6. Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

If you are curious about WOYWW or want to see what other folks are up to head over to Julia's Stamping Ground. Better yet, join in the fun too :D.

Happy Holidays!

I hope everyone who celebrates had a wonderful Thanksgiving! For everyone who doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope your Thursday was wonderful :D.

I cooked my first full Turkey in 41 years lol. DD was very excited, all her life we've had Large Chickens (we didn't have a working oven and they had to go in a small Nesco Roaster), Turkey Breasts or we've eaten somewhere else. I should mention I earned my Cooking Badge by cooking Thanksgiving Dinner 41 years ago. I was such an overachiever back then lol. Macaroni and cheese would have earned the badge just as well.

Then we went to the movies and saw Tangled which totally rocked :D. We've been every year since DD was about 18 months except for the year she had to be admitted to the hospital for an appendicitis attack only she didn't have an appendix anymore (a lot of gray hairs on that one).

The bad news is the house has been having some issues (boiler stopped generating heat and the kitchen sink simultaneously back up and caused flooding under the refrigerator lol). Fortunately my wonderful BIL helped me figure out how the flooding was occurring (it's a tale for another day lol) and both were relatively inexpensive fixes (but I really could have stocked up on carts with the black Friday sales). Looking on the positive, I came up with a new idea lol (more on that later too!).

I got my replacement Gypsy Wednesday! I'm still linking carts. I'm still trying to find all the carts I squirreled away because I had my first Gypsy lol. I was thinking about getting some of the newer carts (I haven't bought any full-sized carts since Joann's Founder's Day Sale except for the Creative Memories carts which I only "just" ordered).  My Memento (favorite) black dye ink pad is fading from over use and I can't find re-inker anywhere locally so I've been shopping for it online only all these other things keep jumping in the cart and it winds up be wayyyyy too much. But I found it on sale at Joann's and only cost me the Martha Stewart Seasonals Cake cart ($27.plus on sale and the pink ATG (with fifty percent off coupon which wound up being about $15).

I bought DD's big present online on Thanksgiving Day. We didn't go shopping at the stores until 10:30. DD needed new shoes and it belatedly occurred to me Black Friday might be a good day to find them lol. DD found the perfect shoes for $18.25. I missed out on Jolly Holidays online and at the store, but I wound up with Twinkle Toes (I needed a piano, stage curtain and just plain love the dancing fish) and a new coffee maker for $8.88. We also picked up a pair of gloves for the bell-ringer at the front of the store who had left hers at home.
