Papertrey Ink May 2015 Blog Hop

This month's Papertrey Ink Blog Hop inspiration is Wood Blocks. I couldn't get "block heads" out of my mind, so I put them on a card. For the second time in as many weeks I made a card without a single stamp. The cardbase is an A2 size piece of Stamper's Select White. The blocks are made of textured white Club Scrap cardstock, that has been throughly inked with Blueberry Skies, Ocean Tides and Simply Chartreuse ink pads. The legs are drawn on with a black marker. The bottom is edged with Soft Stone. Foam tape is used to pop up two of the blocks.

I've been using my stencils a lot more since I put them in page protectors (Avery Elle 100/$10 on amazon). A better view than usual of my two tier lazy susans. The one with the Distress Inks also has a glass cake holder and organizing cups. There's a set of birthday cards in re-used packaging to be sent to my father's widow. And some card stock halves ready to be put to use.

I've got two more "DIY Kraft Resist" tags to make (molding and wendy veechi white embossing paste). The ones I've made so far from left to right: Versamark (plain and with clear embossing powder), translucent texture paste matte, translucent embossing paste, crackle texture paste, versamark with clear embossing powder with Picket Fence and Festive Berries Distress Stains.

T Stands For Tiki

It's time for T Stands for [Tiki] with Elizabeth and Bleubeard.

First course photographed at the craft table, eaten elsewhere lol. I can't believe it's hot enough to be eating watermelon/feta cheese/spinach radicchio arugula/balsamic vinegar salad already. Usually it's in the 60s/70s in May. We've already had 5 days at or near 90. And this time I'm using a yellow Tiki glass with water. It might be time to break out the cucumbers for cucumber water.

Painted Flower Card

Simon Says Inspiration Color Swatch. The card base is Papertrey Ink's Spring Rain, the flower is stamped on Stamper's Select White. The flower stamp is from Altenew Painted Flowers set stamped with Papertrey Ink's Sweet Blush, Autumn Rose and Dark Chocolate, and Cracked Pistachio and Evergreen Bough Distress Inks. I picked up the washi tape at a big box store on sale, but no idea who the maker is. It is lovely stuff though.

Musical Note

This week's CASology cue card is Music. So I put these tiny golden notes in an enclosed frame. The frame is 2.5 x 2.5. Glossy Accents glue the top layer of cardstock to the clear cardstock and the fun foam. Scor-Tape holds the fun foam to the card base. All the cardstock is Stamper's Select White by Papertrey Ink (I'm on a quest to replace foam adhesive on enclosed frames).

The notes are white shrinky dink punched with a note punch (at least 10 years old, not labeled) shrunk with a heat-it and colored with Gold Alcohol Ink. No stamps, no inkpads. I was shocked lol.

Happy Tassel Day!

A shaker graduation card made from stash on hand. The rectangle is the leftover from the Papertrey Ink Make It Market kit: Shakers and Sprinkle stitched rectangle die. The sequins are a little bit of the blue, pink and orange from the same kit. The frame is made with Sweet Blush cardstock, the patterned paper is from the Melon Berry assortment. The tag is from Maggie Holmes stamped with a jumping graduate from Club Scrap (2008 Graduate kit) as is the "Happy Tassel Day" stamp both stamped with Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink.

I used hot pink fun foam and Beacon's 3 in 1 Glue to make the shaker element. I should have "de-staticed" the clear cardstock, but there is no sticky residue around the sides of the frame. I used two sheets of the very thin fun foam beccause its what I had on hand, but thicker fun foam is available and I'll be stocking up on that now : ).  I think double-sided tape would work for this as well and so might Glossy Accents. Ranger Multi-Medium Matte did not work. I don't think any of these would work for iron filings, but I'll test that at a later point.

A brief comparison of fun foam and foam adhesive. Fun foam is available in a variety of colors, and if you don't "over" glue, the edges will be not be sticky. If you do over glue, it won't be sticky after it dries (just don't shake the card until it's dry). I believe the cost is less, something to verify later. On the down side it is a little more work (unless you count the time spent trying to keep foam adhesive off things you don't want it on).

Foam adhesive is very sticky and doesn't require anything else. It can be difficult to put only where it is wanted. The shaker elements are prone to stick to the edges of the foam adhesive.
